ADU

"ADU" stands for auxiliary dwelling unit.  It is essentially is a modest size individual dwelling unit allowed within a single family zoning regulated area.  These building types have become more and more popular as a way to address the housing shortage.

For ADUs, we like to work with clients first on a feasibility phase.  This explores aspects such as zoning and health department issues.  ADUs can be used for aging family members, adult children, even as a rental if zoning permits.

Many towns have allowances for ADUs and some states have laws permitting them.  Massachusetts recently passed a law and California has an established law for permitting ADUs.
